A cornerstone of sports and entertainment for decades in southern Connecticut, the New Haven Coliseum (officially named New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum) was imploded on January 20, 2007 in front of crowds that numbered in the thousands. The arena hosted events and acts including the New Haven Nighthawks, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Ice Capades, WWE, Van Halen, Grateful Dead, Phish, and dozens of others since 1972.
